The menu section

The menu section lists the functions and contents provided by the YBh database web site.  The menu section serves as the banner of the web and is always available at the top of the window.  Below is the list of the menu selections and their brief explanations.

Ø          YBhome -- returns to the home page of YBh database web site.

Ø          Outline – displays the outlines of the YBh database in the outline section.

Ø          Compare outlines – displays two frames of outlines for comparison

Ø          Search – allows users to search the YBh database (details as below)

Ø          GoTo – goes to the specified text and optionally at the specified page and/or column (details as below)

Ø          Copy /w citation – copies the selected part of content with its citation (see How to copy with citation?)

Ø          Annotation – lists and displays the 5 articles that are the introductories of Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra written by 5 different scholars. 

Ø          Dictionary – lists and links to the relevant dictionaries (under construction, Oct. 2002)

Ø          Download – lists the files for users to download, including fonts, the outlines (in text format) and content (in HTML or PDF format) of each text contained in the YBh database

Ø          CBETA – goes to the web site of CBTA (Chinese Buddhist Text Association)

Ø          Reference – lists the bibliography of the YBh research project and links to other web sites

Ø          E-Learning – links to the e-Learning relevant to YBh  (under construction, Oct. 2002)

Ø          News – lists the updates of the YBh database web site

Ø          User’s Guide – helps to explain and answer questions about using the web site

Ø          About YBh -- introduces the YBh database web site and provides relevant information such as people, process, future plan, contact information, etc.

Ø          Site Map – displays the content map of the YBh database web site

Ø          Contact Us – sends email to the webmaster of YBh database


How to Search?                    △Top

To search in the YBh database web site, click on theSearchin the menu section.  An input box with some search selections will displays in the left frame (see Figure below).  This Searchfunction does full-text search within the YBh database web site.

Step 1.   Input the key word you want search in the text box.  To input Sanskrit characters with diacritic, you could click on those special characters listed below.

Step 2.   Select one of the radio buttons below the text box.
The first is to display search results in volume.
The second is to display search results in sentence.

Step 3.   Click on the  button.

Notes.    The selection of languages, Boolean search and number of words to search in context are functions under construction (Oct. 2002).

 

The search results will display below the input area in the left frame.  Results include number of matches found, list of the findings (10 each page), and total number of report pages. 

If you chose to display search results in volume, the results would be sequenced in number of occurrence of the keywords found in each volume.  The number of occurrence is listed in parenthesis next to the name of that volume.  For example, 76 occurrences of the keywords were found in Volume 51 of 瑜伽論, which is the highest number found. 

Click on any of the listed findings will open and display that volume in the text section (see Figure below).  The keyword searched will appear in red in the text.

If you chose to display search results in sentence, the results will display each occurrence of the keyword found in each volume (see Figure below).

   

 


How to GoTo a certain text?                     △Top

To go to a certain text, click on GoToin the menu section.  An input area will display for you to specify where you want to go.  The first input box is to specify the text, second box the page number, the 3rd selection box is for column.  Only the first input is required, page number and column are optional. 

To GoTo a Chinese text, input its number (E.g., T1579 for 瑜伽師地).  You could refer to the list of abbreviations for all the texts and their numbers in TaiSho).

To GoTo a Sanskrit text, input its abbreviation (E.g., Sh-St for the Sanskrit text of 瑜伽師地). 

The table below lists the range of pages for each text to GoTo (E.g., page 279-882 for T1579).

 

 


 

How to Copy /w Citation?                    △Top

To copy with citation, you first need to open the text from the outline section.  In the frame of the text, select the part of content to copy, then click on the “copy /w citation” in the menu section at the top of the window.  A dialog box will appear to show the content and its citation (see Figure below). 

Then you could paste it in any word-processor.  The selected part of the text would be pasted with its citation-- the abbreviation of the text, the copied content, and its volume number, text number, page number, its column and line number.  Below is an example.
